Mary Alice Reporting –

A project related to piping and sewer lines was awarded funding through Ohio BUILDS.

The Tuscarawas County Metropolitan Sewer District received $533,500 for the Wilkshire Hills Area Sewer Rehabilitation Project.

Engineer Mike Jones indicates that they identified several areas of concerns for the older part around the Kerns Drive and Laurens Drive area.

“Cracked sewer pipes, manholes that need to be replaced so we are basically looking at bidding out a contract with a qualified sewer rehabilitation contractor to make the renovations necessary to bring that system back into operating service. Sort of like new condition.”

Work to be include is a tube being pulled through the existing sewer and it conforms to the shape.

“Lot of the areas where there’s leaking joints or cracked pipes will be sealed off. One of the main things that we’re trying to accomplish here is to prevent the infiltration of ground water into the sanitary sewer system.”

That water introduction has the possibility of creating surcharges in the system that can create backups into homes.
