The man who pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a New Philadelphia Police officer faces a maximum sentence of 17 to 22 and a half years in prison.
Police arrested 28-year-old Dyllan Riter on January 14th after responding to a report of a suspicious man behind an apartment complex on East High Avenue. Police say Riter grabbed an officer’s gun as he resisted an arrest attempt. They say he fired a single shot that narrowly missed a police detective’s head.
On Tuesday, Riter pleaded guilty to attempted murder, felonious assault and grand theft of a firearm. Judge Michael Ernest will sentence him on September 1st.
Riter was wanted by Stark County authorities for a pair of armed robberies of a Dollar General store. Those criminal cases are still pending.
