A Thursday incident sent a 9-year-old to the hospital with non-serious injuries but brings a reminder to talk to children about the dangers of guns and ammunition.

Around 7pm, a caller on Sunset Boulevard, in Dundee, indicated that their grandson was bleeding from a laceration.

The boy was transported to Akron Children’s for treatment.

Remaining at the scene, Tuscarawas County Sheriff Deputies learned from the 6-year-old brother, and later the older boy, that they had been by a shed and they found a .22 caliber bullet. The older child was injured while striking the bullet with a hammer, causing it to explode.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell urges all to have a conversation with their child about guns and ammunition.

As per protocol, Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services will review the case.
