Harley Pearl Dakin, beloved husband, father, genealogist, and community member, passed away on Sunday July 16th at the age of 67. He was born on April 19, 1956, to the late Aubrey Pearl Dakin and Thelma Elizabeth Cline Dakin.

Harley was a passionate genealogist who was dedicated to unraveling family histories and preserving heritage. He pursued his studies in Genealogy at WVU. Harley served as an administrator for the Y DNA project for the Cline and Dakin surnames, facilitating research and connections among families. He often shared his knowledge through presentations to members of the Sons of the American Revolution on the life and heritage of the American patriot Hans George Cline. Harley’s dedication to preserving family history also extended to his co-authorship of several books on Cline family genealogy.

Harley actively participated in various Ohio genealogy societies. He was a founding member of the Everal Chapel Preservation Society and a member of the Jericho Church Preservation Society, working to ensure the preservation of these historical landmarks. Harley’s commitment to history was further demonstrated through his involvement in the Newcomerstown Historical Society, where he recently participated in the Lenape Diaspora Memorial project.

Professionally, Harley was a member of the American Society of Plastic Engineers and the American Society for Quality Control. He served as Quality Director at DLH Industries, Quality Manager at Wilbert Plastic Services, Quality Director, and Sales Manager at Boltaron, and Quality Engineer at Federal-Mogul Cambridge. His expertise and dedication to quality standards left a lasting impact on the organizations he worked with.

Harley’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Marianne Arnold Dakin, whom he married on June 19, 1976. He is survived by his son, Shawn Aubrey Dakin, and his wife, Jami Sue Rose Dakin, along with their children, William Harley Dakin, Alexis Christine Dakin, and Hayden Dale Dakin. He is also survived by his brother, Darrell (Darlene) Lee Dakin, and sister Jeanette Dakin Moorman. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Harley was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Eugene Dakin, Gary William Dakin, Charles Raymond Dakin, and sisters, Marsha Luella Dakin and Eva Frances Dakin Brandon.

Harley Pearl Dakin will be remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated genealogist, and a valued member of the community. His contributions to the field of genealogy and his unwavering commitment to preserving history will leave a lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday July 20th, 2023, at Everal’s Chapel in Newcomerstown with Rev. Lee Randolph officiating. Burial will follow at Everal’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday July 19th, 2023, from 4 to 7 pm at Everal’s Chapel.
