Harold P. “Butch” Baker, Jr., 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton while surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Harold P. and Irene E. (Orr ) Baker, Sr. and was a graduate of the former Stone Creek High School at Stone Creek. Butch began his career driving trucks for his father and eventually became the Owner and Operator of Baker Hi-Way Express, Inc., T.A.B. Leasing, Inc., Sanders Transfer, K.W.B. Trucking, Trans Service, Shopco, and BHX.

Butch was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia and was a 32nd degree Mason affiliated with the Scottish Rite and also a member of the Masonic York Rite, Tadmor Shrine of Akron. He was also a member of the American Trucking Association and Ohio Trucking Association, the former Dover Elks lodge and a life member of the B.P.O.E. #510 at New Philadelphia.

Surviving is his wife of 63 ½ years, Barbara Ann (Rosenberry) Baker of the residence, a son, Todd (Rhonda) Baker and two daughters, Tracy (John) Schlegel and Tiffany (Dwayne) Shepherd all of New Philadelphia; three granddaughters, Kelsie (Shane) Gunnoe, Kyla (Cory) Hershberger and Alexa Shepherd; a step-granddaughter, Andrea Ditcher; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Gunnoe, Brystal Gunnoe, Pence Hershberger and a sister, Shirley Brug.

In addition to his parents, a granddaughter, Krisie Ann and a stillborn infant grandchild have also preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 9:30 to 11 AM in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia where Pastor Rob Eller will officiate his service beginning at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
