Harvey Lee Johns, Jr., age 75, of New Philadelphia passed peacefully, early Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in Sycamore Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Millersburg, following a period of declining health.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 17, 1948, Harvey was the son of the late Harvey Lee Johns, Sr. and Mary Nedelman Johns.
He joined the United States Army in 1968 and completed two tours of service as an MP in Vietnam prior to his Honorable Discharge. Professionally, Harvey spent a number of years as a police officer for the city of Twinsburg. He later relocated to the Pennsylvania area where he spent the remainder of his career as a Security and Loss Prevention Officer for Sally Beauty Company.
Harvey had a great love for the game of golf and also enjoyed bird watching, traveling, eating out, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Johns whom he married on February 2, 2008, his children, Victoria (Tom) Cooney, Jacob Johns, Kevin (Christine) Johns, and Douglas (Amanda) Johns, step-children, Carrie (Marcus) Miller, and Jan Walter; his grandchildren, Thomas Harvey and Declan Cooney, Nicholas, Grant, and Chase Johns, Abigail, Allison, and Matthew Johns; step-grandchildren, Ethan (Izzy) Miller, Jaydon Miller, and Jordan (Sara) Walter, and a step-great-granddaughter, Luna Walter. Completing the family is a brother, David (Barbara) Johns and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Johns, and a sister, Linda Johns.
In keeping with Harvey’s wishes, a private inurnment will take place in the Emmanuel Cemetery, Lewisberry, Pennsylvania where fellow veteran’s will honor a final salute for his service to his country. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling cremation care.
