Helen Jean Shamel, age 80, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, O.

Born October 15, 1941, in Newcomerstown, O., Helen is the daughter of the late Russell C. and Freda I. (Mathews) Beal.

In 1959, Helen graduated from Midvale High School.  Helen started her working career at the Evening Chronicle and the Times Reporter.  Most recently she was employed at Claymont City Schools as a substitute educational aide.  Her greatest joy was baking, vacationing, and spending time with her family.

On December 24, 1959, Helen married her husband James F. Shamel, who preceded her in death on November 15, 2020. 

Helen is survived by her children Debbie (Brian) Cope of Uhrichsville, Marla (Mark) Miskimen of Dennison and Jim (Marcia) Shamel of Dennison; sisters Charlotte (Rick) Campbell of New Philadelphia and Faye (Web) DiGenova of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren Julie Galloway, David (Brooke) LeBlanc, Caitlyn (Eric Haynam) Miskimen, Christopher Miskimen, Carson Shamel, Emma Shamel, Jackson Shamel and Toria (Leland) Kendrick; great-grandchildren Bradyn, Parker and Layne Galloway, Asher, London, and Ryker LeBlanc; sister-in-law Bonnie (Dave) Harmon and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Helen will be held at 8 p.m., on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with the Pastor Scott Simmons officiating.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., (three hours prior to services) on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the funeral home.
