A 26-year-old will remain on a $10,000 bond after New Philadelphia Municipal Court’s judge waived a hearing and denied a bond reduction request.

Sean Wahl is charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and other charges after his arrest following a high speed chase that began in Strasburg and end just before Dennison, with speeds reaching over 100 mph at times and multiple law enforcement agencies involved.

The defense requested for bond to be reduced and said that he was trying to get warrants out of Stark County resolved, and that he was homeless but trying to get his life together.

According to Tuscarawas County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Urban the failure to appear warrants related to separate cases of traffic and theft and asked to judge to continue bond.

“For someone who was trying to take care of their warrants, it’s a little inconsistent during a traffic stop to then flee from the officer that stopped him, going a lengthy chase through Dover, two separate agencies deploying stop sticks and then for Mr. Wahl to exit his vehicle and run on foot, which then resulted in the deployment of a canine.”

Wahl chose to speak regarding the request to go to a personal recognizance.

“I fled from the officer cause I really just wanted to get my dog to my mom and that’s the address that I have now in Uhrichsville after I was living in a van. Just wanted to get my dog home and make sure she was safe because I’ve had that dog when I started being homeless and it just meant a lot to not see that dog get put in a pound or see something happen to it.”

Acting Judge Christine Weimer said the bond amount will remain in place and that the case will now go to the Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court for further consideration.
