Mary Alice Reporting –

More than 55 million travelers are expected to go 50 miles or more over the holiday travel period, according to AAA East Central.

The busiest times will be Wednesday between 2 and 6pm, with the best time to head out being before 11am. The worst times to drive on Thanksgiving Day is between 11am and 3pm, for Friday it’s from noon to 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday between 3 and 5pm.

Ohio Department of Transportation Digital Media Coordinator Renee DeFord encourages Ohioans to check www.ohgo.com or the app before traveling.

“It gives you access to more than one thousand traffic cameras, real-time traffic alerts, construct zones, and more.”

Many ODOT work zones will be reduced in size, says ODOT Press Secretary Matt Bruning.

“There are some locations, in Ohio, where those orange barrels just cannot be moved, this includes I-70 in Zanesville and through downtown Columbus at the I-71 interchange, I-75 in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo, and several projects in the Akron area.’

Anyone traveling over the extended holiday weekend is encouraged to plan ahead, slow down, and obey all traffic laws.

In addition, the Ohio State Highway Patrol will also ramp up their presence on the roadways.
