Hunters were busy on Ohio’s opening day of deer gun season.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources opened the week-long hunt on Monday and across Ohio, hunters checked 26,667 white-tailed deer. This is the highest opening day since 2012’s total of over 29,000.
Top counties include Coshocton with just over 1,000 deer checked, followed by Tuscarawas at 954, and then Knox county for the top three.
Gun season ends December 8th, but will reopen for an additional weekend on Saturday and Sunday, December 21st and 22nd.
Hunters are reminded to wear blaze orange and practice safety measures with muzzleloader and archery season also continuing across Ohio.
