On Tuesday, shortly before 6am, deputies responded to the State Route 39 accident, east of County Road 135. They determined that 27-year-old Maria Kempf, of Fresno, was fatally injured while operating an electric bike.
Investigators say Kempf was westbound on the berm of SR 39 and had stopped briefly to make a left-hand turn to Walnut Creek Cheese’s main office. She turned into the path of a westbound GMC Denali, driven by a 27-year-old from Millersburg.
The Holmes County Sheriff notes that Kempf was wearing a reflective vest and had an operating flashing rear light.
The investigation is ongoing. Deputies were assisted by East Holmes Fire and EMS and the Holmes County Coroner’s Office.
