The shop was not just a business to Rod. The love he poured into his donuts was his pride and joy.

On April 8, 1978, Rod married Linda J. (Goedel) Smith who survives him along with their children, Michael D. (Bambi) McWilliams, Rodney A. Smith (former daughter-in-law, Amber Gano), and Carissa (Scott) Cleveland; and grandchildren, Mackenzie, Mason, and Mallory McWilliams, Bryce and Addilynn Smith, and Nicholas and Andrew Cleveland. Rod is also survived by his sisters, Darlene (Randy) Milburn and Penny Halsey, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Lee Smith, and brother-in-law, Roy Halsey.

According to Rod’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas Co. Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
