Howard “Dick” Simons, 90, of Sugarcreek, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover.

He was born in Greenville, Kentucky on March 23, 1932, to the late George and Sylvia (Roe) Simons and married Susan Troyer. She survives.

In addition to his wife, Sue, he is survived by his children, Jim Simons and Judy McRobie; granddaughter, Lindsay (Jeremy) Rowe; and great-grandson Brexin Rowe.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a military policeman. He was decorated with the Korean Services Ribbon and two Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

He worked as the Road Superintendent for Sugarcreek Township for 27 years. In gratitude for his years of untiring service, the trustees named the road he lived on after him (SimonsDrive). After retirement, he enjoyed bicycling and celebrated his 70th birthday by riding 100 miles.

Howard never met a person he didn’t want to talk to and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor.

In addition to his parents, He is preceded in death by his brother Joe and two sisters, Georgia and Margie.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public services.  Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.  The family would like to thank the staff at New Dawn Retirement Community where he resided for almost four years.
