Nick McWilliams reporting – Hunters in Ohio score positive results during the opening day of the 2023 deer gun season.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife reported that on November 27th, harvest numbers reflected 7,676 antlered and 11,683 antlerless deer taken for a total of 19,359.
That was an increase of 2,162 total deer from 2022 opening day, and well above the three-year average of around 16,600.
Coshocton remains the top county in the state for deer harvested with 858, followed by Tuscarawas with 712, and Muskingum at 630.
Gun season remains open through Sunday, December 3rd and will return for a two-day period on December 16th and 17th.
Paired with archery season, hunters in Ohio have taken in nearly 117,000 deer as of Monday.
