Nick McWilliams reporting – Overnight paving work by the Ohio Department of Transportation is ongoing on Interstate 77 with all drivers asked to proceed with caution.

The work is for seven miles of interstate from New Philadelphia to Strasburg between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.

ODOT and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say that despite usual advisories, they still encounter speeders and dangerous drivers in work zones, according to District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell.

“All of the individuals working on the roads, whether ODOT contractors, first responders, and our maintenance crews, they all have somebody waiting for them at the end of the day, and it’s so important to pay attention. We want you to get home safe and most importantly, we want all those working on the roads to get home safe too.”

Drivers are advised to keep their eyes out for changing speed limits, vehicles braking, trucks entering and exiting work zones, and hazard lights.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
