The Ohio State Patrol believes drugs and alcohol are factors in a three-vehicle fatal crash.
Troopers with the New Philadelphia Post responded Thursday shortly after 2pm to mile post 63 along Interstate 77.
A release indicates that a Honda CR-V, driven by 18-year-old Ava Stamets, crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes, striking a Ford F-150, which went off the road and overturned. The Honda spun and hit a Ram 1500. Both stopped after hitting a guardrail.
Stamets was pronounced deceased on scene. The other two drivers and four Ram passengers received minor injuries and were transported to Cambridge’s Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
The crash is still under investigation. Assisting at the scene was the Ohio Department of Transportation for traffic control, along with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Newcomerstown EMS, Tri-County, and the Coroner’s Office.
