In Memory of the Late Edward (Ed) Schumacher 1952-2013
Colorectal Cancer Awareness
WTUZ Radio was built on a dream from a man who had a great passion for radio and community. We remember and honor Edward A. Schumacher. Ed found and built WTUZ Radio from the ground up in the basement of his house and went live on-air May 1st, 1990.
Sadly, Ed lost his battle with colon cancer March 20th of 2013, his last wish was to tell everyone about colon cancer screening: “Don’t wait—get screened, Screening Saves Lives. Call your doctor today to schedule an appointment”
Colorectal cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the U.S., with an estimated 158,850 new cases expected in 2026 and more than 55,000 deaths this year. Early screening can prevent cancer or detect it when it’s easier to treat.
Colon cancer now ranks as the number one cause of cancer deaths in Americans under 50, a sharp rise that experts say demands urgent screening and awareness.
If you’re 45 or older, or have a family history, talk to your doctor today. Colorectal cancer is preventable. Detectable. Beatable.
