The ribbon is cut for the new inclusive playground at Tuscora Park.
Led by the efforts of Preston Cornell, around $500,000 was raised to put in the structures by the park’s rollercoaster.
“We’re excited it’s available now for all families, all ages, all abilities to enjoy. And you just look around at all the families having fun together and you just realize that’s what it’s all about. I have a close friend who’s in a wheelchair and to see him get out on the playground with his kids felt really good.”
For the playground, she says visitors can enjoy a variety of mobility friendly areas.
“An example, there’s a zipline and there’s a seat that you could load somebody from a wheelchair into that seat, and they can enjoy the zipline but also a young child can sit in that seat as well, so it just includes everybody.”
Cornell says the idea for the inclusive playground was her mother.
“She worked until retirement and saved all this money, and she passed away and wasn’t able to enjoy her retirement. So, we’re always looking for good things to do in the community to give back and so I had this idea to do this playground in her honor because she loved the park.”
Cornell thanked the Tuscora Park Foundation, organizations, and community for their help and monetary donations.
