An Indian Valley Local School District operating levy is back on the ballot for November after five years.
The original levy was passed in 1984, and has been renewed each election cycle since that year, with seven successful votes for the district.
Superintendent Ira Wentworth notes that the levy goes towards to expenses in keeping doors open and the lights on.
“It goes into the general fund, and it covers a lot of needs, like utilities, fuel, which goes for our transportation obviously, technology, educational software, [and more.] Our kids learn in the 21st century with that. We still have general supplies for the classroom, and to run offices.”
Some books are also funded through the issue on the ballot, along with professional development courses and salaries and benefits for employees.
Wentworth called the levy “critical” for the operations of all schools, and that no new taxes will be collected. Renewal generates roughly $1 million per year for the district.
