Mary Alice Reporting – A local board of education took a few moments to congratulate Ira Wentworth for being selected for the Ohio Superintendent Outstanding Performance Award.

Wentworth, in spring 2007, was appointed as an Indian Valley principal at Midvale Elementary before taking the helm as district superintendent in 2013.

The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation hosts the prestigious award, and Wentworth was nominated by Indian Valley Education Board President Francis Picchetti.

“We appreciate all you do for the staff, the students, and the community. We’ve just been honored in so many ways, we’re extremely blessed, and we’re blessed to have you. Ira, you’re the captain of our ship and you do amazing things for the district. You’re also an advocate for quality education pathways to success for all our students.”

Along with the award, the Foundation also provides a $10,000 grant to the district in Wentworth’s name.

At Monday’s Board meeting, members recognized the Superintendent’s achievements, with Wentworth expressing his gratitude.

“I feel like Indian Valley is my home. I appreciate the opportunity and trust and I’ll keep working hard to make sure our name is high as the finish list, the results, as we can be.”

Wentworth will also be recognized as the Ohio winner at the Foundation’s annual educators retreat in July.
