Irene Belle Ferguson, 86, of Newcomerstown, Ohio, passed away at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio on Friday, July 19, 2024. Born October 17, 1937, in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson White and Gladys Irene (Baumberger) White.

On February 1, 1954, she married Roy Eugene Ferguson, Sr. who preceded her in death on October 16, 1990, after 36 years of loving marriage. They are survived by two sons, Tracy and Timothy (Tracy) Ferguson; two daughters, Norma Stouffer and Karen (Randy) Cummings; a daughter-in-law, Robin Shuss; grandchildren, Cody and Taylor Cummings, and Madison, Duncan, and Koby Ferguson; and great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Aden, and Tatum. Irene is also survived by her brother, William W. (Chris) White; sisters, Veda Lukens and Juanita (Tom) Mallernee; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy E. Ferguson, Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Thomas Fry, Doris and Richard Matthews; and Roy Lukens.

Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker who had also worked at Ross’ Market Basket in Uhrichsville for a number of years. She delighted in the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When she was younger, she enjoyed gardening and canning, as well as traveling with her husband, Roy Sr., to various pony pulling events. In her later years, she enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles.

Pastor Gordon Furbay will officiate a 1:00 p.m. service on Monday, July 22, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where Irene’s family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the funeral. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Deersville-Patterson Union Cemetery in Deersville. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Irene’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
