Issues, Candidates on November General Election

Election Day is Tuesday and renewals, statewide issues, and contested races are on for many voting districts.

Polling locations open at 6:30am and two statewide issues will be on for all precincts.

Issue 1 regards an “amendment relating to abortion and other reproductive decision” and would establish Ohio’s constitution right to “make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions”.

For Issue 2, is approved, it would “commercialize, regulate, legalize, and tax adult use of cannabis” which would make recreational use of marijuana on Ohio legal.

Localized issues include property taxes for multiple villages:

Baltic: replacement levy for police protection
Barnhill: additional for sire and EMS services
Dennison: replacement for general fund operating expenses
Midvale: renewal to aid in general construction, resurfacing, and repair of streets and roads
Mineral City: replacement levy for fire protection
Port Washington: renewal for current operating expenses. The village also as a renewal with an increase for maintenance and operating of Union Cemetery.
Strasburg: this is a replacement with an increase for police protection
Sugarcreek: the renewal dollars is for fire and emergency services
Village of Tuscarawas: renewal to provide for street improvements

Several townships also have renewal issues relating, but not limited to, road maintenance, fire protection, general operating expenses, and emergency services.

Some voters will also see contested races for many mayor and council seats. There are also five people seeking two spots on the Claymont Board of Education: Christina Armstrong, Martha Campbell, John Grant, Solomon Peters, and Michelle Sproul.

On Tuesday, polling locations close at 7:30pm.

Those voting by absentee have the deadline to mail in their ballot as it must be postmarked by Monday, November 6^th and received by the Board of Elections office by November 13^th. These ballots can be dropped off at the drop box location by 7:30pm Election Day.
