J. Roger Phillips, 89, of Tippecanoe, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover. Born November 16, 1933, in Tippecanoe, he was a son of the late Dane Walter and Alice Rose (VanCamp) Phillips.
A lifelong resident, he was a 1953 graduate of Freeport High School before proudly serving his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, having been stationed in Korea. He returned home to a long career as an over-the-road truck driver, working for various area companies, including Tusco and Associated Grocers for 28 years. He also enjoyed working his family farm, raising beef cattle. He had a real passion for restoring vintage vehicles, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and John Deere and Ford tractors, and he was a member of the National Street Rod Association.
Roger is survived by his wife, Dawna M. (Andreatta) Phillips whom he married on February 11, 1966; his brother, L. Delmar Phillips; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Louis Phillips, and sister, JoAnn Milarcik.
According to Roger’s wishes, he will be buried without a public visitation or service in Greenmont Union Cemetery at Freeport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
