The Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless is getting ready for the completion of their new addition – Jack’s House of Hope.
Executive Director Calvin White says the community is invited into the new building on Thursday, April 23rd. They’ll enter through the main entrance located next to the rear entrance of the New Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
“The open house is from 3:30 to 6:30 and we’re going to have a ceremonial ribbon cutting at 5:15, and our founder Jack Ream will be present. and we’re just looking for a really nice turnout, and we’re very proud, happy, grateful, and appreciative of all the people that have contributed.”
The 20,000 square foot facility features 14 individual rooms for men, 13 for women, and several family/couple rooms.
“The other part of the shelter, its two stories, and on the first floor we’re having some facilities so that people who are in our community are unsheltered can come in shower and do some laundry, we have a dining room that’s going to be able to seat around 60 people, and then on the second floor that’ll be the administrative offices, training room, and group room.”
Other features include a chapel and courtyard.
White adds that they are still seeking monetary donations for the $5.5 million project. More details can be found on the Friends of the Homeless website, www.fothtusc.org.
