James E. “Corky” Golden Jr., 84, of Dover passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House. He was born on June 16, 1939, in Weirton, West Virginia to the late James Sr. and Theresa Musico Golden.
Corky led a remarkable life filled with dedication, hard work, and a deep commitment to his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his career as a barber and his service to his country.
Corky retired from Ohio Laborers Union Local #134 in Newcomerstown after serving faithfully for many years. Additionally, he was the proud owner of Corky’s Barbershop in Dover for several decades. Corky’s barber skills were legendary, and he was cherished by his customers for his professionalism and warm personality.
Prior to his successful career as a barber, Corky served in the United States Navy, proudly representing his country on the USS Essex. He was a Navy veteran whose service was valued and appreciated by all who knew him. Corky was honored to be a life member of the Dover VFW.
Family meant everything to Corky. He is survived by his three children, David (Donna Marie) Golden of Millersburg, Dennis (Sandy) Golden of Bolivar, Darrell Golden of Las Vegas. He also leaves behind step-children: Debra (Brad) Sayre of Dover, Lisa McConnell of Dennison, Thomas (Alicia) McConnell of Michigan.
Corky’s loving nature extended beyond his immediate family to include 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of love and kindness.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Becky Golden who passed on June 29, 2013, and his sister, Connie Pietranton.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. Per Corky’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
