James E. “Jim” Duvall, age 97, of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, in his home with his loving family at his side.

Born May 3, 1925, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Howard and Mellie Charnock Duvall. Jim graduated from Dover High School in 1944, and soon afterward entered the United States Navy serving in the Second World War. He was very proud of his military time and was particularly honored to participate in an Honor Flight trip to the war memorials in Washington, D.C. Following his discharge, he returned to Tuscarawas County and married the former Harriet L. Haswell on July 11, 1947. The couple had two daughters and shared 75 years of marriage prior to Harriet’s passing on September 13 of this year. Jim was employed by Eaton Manufacturing in Massillon for more than 30 years before his retirement.

He was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed basketball and following local school teams, and he especially enjoyed tournaments.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Sheri (David) Longfellow and Sandra (Rick) Price, both of Strasburg; his grandson, Ashley (Gaby) Price of Bath; his great-grandchildren, Noah and Piper Price; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ed Haswell, Ronald “Nick” and Glenna Haswell, Georgean and Dick Lutz, and Bertie and Ron Gray; and his many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and his beloved wife, Harriet, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Walt Duvall.

Family and friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, on Friday, Dec. 2, 10 – 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 officiated by Rev. Matthew Wald. Burial will be in Strasburg’s Grandview Union Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the hospitality room of the Strasburg funeral home.

The family suggests that contributions in Jim’s memory be made to Strasburg United Methodist Church or Community Hospice.
