He was also a talented bowler who had bowled with leagues at Boulevard Lanes and Wabash Lanes (formerly Kinser Lanes), including a perfect 300 game. In the 80s and 90s, he enjoyed playing softball in Dover, New Philadelphia, and Baltic.

On July 26, 1983, Jim married Carol (Case) Meek who survives him at their home. He will also be missed by his sons, James Meek Jr. and Shawn (Sharon) Meek; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Meek; grandchildren, Austin (Maison) Western, Coltin Meek, and Alyssa Meek, along with Dakota “Otis” Smith whom he loved like a grandson; great-grandchildren, Piper Lou and Walker James Western; sisters, Sheila Fisher and Galynn (Robert) Studer; brother-in-law, Ed (Charo) Case; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, he will be cremated after generously giving the gift of life to others as an organ and tissue donor. A celebration of life is planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jim’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
