James P. “Jim” Guida, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away May 7, 2023, in Park Village Southside.

Born November 11, 1940, in Dennison, he was the son of the late Victor Joseph and Rose Justine (Baumholtz) Guida.

Jim was educated at St. Mary’s High School where he was the 1957 quarterback for the undefeated football team. He also excelled at basketball, receiving a scholarship to play at Marietta College. There, he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration.

On August 29, 1970, Jim married the former Jo Ann Cook. Together, they were blessed with the birth of their children, Beth, Vic, and Amy.

Jim began his career in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he served as a manager at Sears and a realtor. When he moved to New Philadelphia, Jim served at Harcatus for more than 20 years prior to retirement.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was an avid Notre Dame fan. His sense of humor and orneriness will long be remembered by those who knew him. Additionally, he loved to watch John Wayne movies and supported his children and adored his grandchildren more than anything.

Jim will be deeply missed by his wife, Jo Ann; his children, Elizabeth (Rodger) Kirtley of New Philadelphia, Vic (Jessica) Guida of Charlotte, NC, and Amy (Bob) Heidler of Bellbrook, OH; his grandchildren, Madeline, Sydney and Olivia Heidler, Brooks and Jeanie Huffman; sister, Rosemarie Mills of Tuscarawas; many beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Victoria and Michael “Pat” Carpenter.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory of New Philadelphia on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a wake service beginning at 7 p.m.

Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
