James P. “Jim” Turnbull, 78, of New Philadelphia passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, in the Community Hospice Truman House.

Born on May 7, 1943 in Oberlin, Ohio he was the son of the late Walter and Virginia Barber Turnbull. Jim proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps for four years during the Vietnam War, and served another four years with the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, he became a truck driver and was an owner and operator of his own rig for over 40 years. Jim was a life member of the New Philadelphia VFW and the DAV; he was also the first commander of the Tusco Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Snellenberger Turnbull, whom he married on February 22, 1970; children, Steve (Christine) Turnbull of Florida, Tammy (Joe) Ramirez of Grove City; sister, Wendi (Jeff) Yakubisin of Beach City; grandchildren, Caitlin, Christopher, Brianna, Makenzie, Ryan, Joseph (Bridgett); and one great-grandson, Tytus.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Matthew Bates officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services. The family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
