James William Stewart, 92, of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. Born April 18, 1929 in Newcomerstown, he was a son of the late Ernest R. and Mellie (Renner) Stewart.

Jim was a lifelong area resident with the exception of the years that he spent in the Army, stationed in Japan and Korea, during the Korean War. He was a 1948 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School and had been employed by Alsco Anaconda in Gnadenhutten for over 43 years until retiring in 1991. He loved playing golf with his friends at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, and he enjoyed taking care of his yard and gardening.

On October 18, 1970, Jim married Shirley L. (Myers) Stewart who survives him at their home. He is also survived by their daughter, Tricia Baldauf; his sisters, Marjorie Burton and Audrey (Richard) Clum; brother, Dale (Kathy) Stewart; Pete Stewart who was like a brother to him; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Don Solman, Linda Stewart, Margie Stewart, Dwight and Penny Myers, and Walter and Carol Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Littleton, Mary Devore, and Ethel Solman, and brothers, Ralph, Fred, Garfield, Bob, Jack, and Dean Stewart.

According to Jim’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
