“Together Again”
Janet M. West, 84, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, in Hennis Care Centre at Dover, following a period of declining health.
Born in Tuscarawas, Janet was the daughter of the late Richard L. and Marie (Decker) Roth and had worked as a salesclerk for a number of local businesses which include the former Everetts Bakery, TG&Y and Hills Department Stores. Janet was a longtime and active member of the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church at New Philadelphia where she served on the Church Board of Trustees and as an Elder.
Janet was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always found great joy in being with her family during activities and gatherings and loved playing cards.
On July 6, 1957, Janet married Harold A. West and together they shared over 51 years of marriage until his passing in October 2008. Janet is survived by a son, Randy (Glenda) West of Dover; and a daughter Julie Thomas and her companion John Shonk of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Parker (Eve) West of Dover, Seth West of Dover, Tara Thomas and her companion Danny Williams of Jewett and Christopher Thomas of Freeport; her brother, Richard (Carol) Roth of Strasburg; her sister, Linda Fisher of Bolivar; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and was eagerly expecting the arrival of her fifth great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Janet was preceded in death by her son, Thomas West; her sister and brother-in-law, Rita Kay and David Kellar; brother-in-law, Larry Fisher and her faithful K-9 companion Gizmo.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Ben Lippert, will lead a funeral service celebrating Janet’s life beginning 11 AM. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park at Dover.
