Jason William Friel, 49, of Gnadenhutten died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Born at Union Hospital on March 13, 1976, Jason was the first child of the late William “Bill” and Victoria (Neibert) Friel. He graduated from Indian Valley High School in 1994 where he was a member of the band. After high school, Jason enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country for five years. Following his service, he came back home and went to work for various companies, including Pomerene Hospital, Kraft foods, and most recently Cooper Standard.

Remaining a kid at heart, Jason enjoyed playing video games, assembling Legos, and reading comic books. He also liked to participate in CrossFit.

Surviving are his siblings: Thomas Friel (companion Stephanie Snyder) and Jill Bickford (husband Tim), both of Gnadenhutten; nieces and nephew: Izabella, Alixandra, Brynn, and Blake; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A military service, conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard, will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten, 244 N. Walnut Street, 44629. Following the service, Jason’s family will receive friends for calling hours until 4:00 P.M.
