Jean Rausch, 98, of West Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Lafayette Point Nursing and Rahab Center, West Lafayette. She was born January 31, 1925 in Newcomerstown, to the late Frank and Jennie (Carney) Palmer. Jean graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1943 and attended every reunion.

On March 2, 1946, she married her husband of 70 years, Thurman George Rausch at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newcomerstown by Reverend Charles Faust. Thurman passed away on March 6, 2016.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Patty) Rausch; two grandsons, Robert (Deanna)Rausch and Randy (Sara) Rausch; four great-grandchildren, Dana, George, Ali and Ben Rausch; two step grandchildren, Sherri (Todd) Bradford and David Ruble; two step great-grandchildren, Kyle Bradford and Ryan Ruble; special cousin, Donald Fenton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma (Max) Ruble; her three sisters, Bernice Dorsey, Mable Palmer and Helen Lahmers; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Fenton and Thelma Immel.

Jean worked for Banc Ohio from 1967 until her retirement after 20 years. In addition to the bank, she was a full time homemaker on their dairy farm. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newcomerstown where she was a member of the Rachel Circle.

Jean joined Buckhorn Grange in 1940. Thurman and Jean transferred to Blue Ridge Grange in 1947. She organized the Junior/Juvenile Grange at Blue Ridge Grange in 1952. She became the State Junior Grange Deputy in 1954, and she received her 80 year pin in 2020. She was one of the original organizers of Orange Blossom 4-H Club. Jean was honored in December of 2008 for 52 years of service as a Coshocton County 4-H advisor. She is honored on the Wall of Fame in the 4-H fair building in Coshocton County.

Jean was an accomplished organ and piano player at church, the Grange, weddings, and accompanying for drills and marches. She was an avid sewer, quilter, crocheter and embroiderer.

Services for Jean will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 11 AM at Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown with Pastor Mark Brodbeck officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral home.
