Jerry Allen Armstrong, 77, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023, at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, after suffering an apparent heart attack. Born August 24, 1946, in Dennison, he was a son of the late Donald Michael and Freda Mae (Abel) Armstrong.
Jerry grew up in Dennison and was a 1964 graduate of Dennison High School. He remained fiercely loyal to his alma mater and was active in the Dennison Alumni Association – including as a past president – throughout his life. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Oglethorpe. In the 1970s, Jerry put his love of all thing’s sports-related into practice as the sportswriter for the Times-Reporter’s Uhrichsville bureau. He later moved to Cleveland where he earned his bachelor’s degree in computer sciences in 1981 from Cleveland State University. He made Cleveland his home for 40 years and was employed by UPS at its Cleveland distribution center until his retirement in 2008.
In 2022, Jerry moved back to the Twin City area where he enjoyed spending time with his family and reconnecting with his classmates. He found particular joy in attending his great-nieces’ and great-nephews’ sporting events. He remained an avid sports fan, especially of The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, as well. Jerry always loved going to family gatherings, taking vacations at the ocean and spending many happy hours immersed in reading biographies and non-fiction literature.
Jerry leaves behind his brothers, Lawrence “Pete” (Helen) Armstrong and James “Jim” (Laurie) Armstrong; sisters, Susan (Barry) Williams and Debra (Roy) Hamilton; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a host of dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Meese, and four brothers, Donald J. and Richard M. Armstrong, and infant twins, Robert and William.
Father Jeff Coning will officiate a noon funeral on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his parents in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery with a military committal service. His family will receive callers from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dennison Alumni Association, P. O.
