Joan E. DelRe, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior at Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar, Ohio, on May 17, 2026, one week after celebrating her 93rd birthday.
Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on May 10, 1933, Joan was the daughter of Robert and Miriam Meyer Buchhaupt.
After graduating from Liberty High School in Bethlehem, she married Vincent C DelRe on August 18, 1951. Together, they raised five children.
Joan enjoyed serving the Lord and others in various ways throughout her lifetime. Among those ways, included working in respite care and as a nurse’s aide; she also served as activities director at New Dawn Nursing Home. She taught children’s Sunday School and helped with the food bank and clothing ministries during Vince’s years as a pastor.
She supported her husband in his pastorates, and after retirement, they worked together in re-upholstery and woodworking businesses. Joan truly enjoyed filling in wherever and whenever a need arose. In her free time, she loved gardening, sewing, refinishing old furniture, and taking long walks with her friend, Kim Wenger.
To know Joan was to love her. She had a quick wit, a warm spirit, and a remarkable way of making everyone around her feel loved. With just the right touch of sass, she brought laughter, comfort, and a personality that was impossible to forget. She fiercely loved her God and family.
Though she now joins Vince, the love of her life of 60 years, who died on November 25, 2011, Joan’s presence will be missed by her family which includes children, Victoria Caulfield of Manchester, New Hampshire, Jennifer (Douglas) Manter of Sidney, Maine, Carolyn (Brian) Stutz of Dover, Ohio and Elizabeth (Michael) Bennett of New Philadelphia, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Vincent C (Karen) DelRe, Jr., and a brother, Robert Buchhaupt, Jr.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 10-11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia, Ohio, where a family-led service will begin at 11 a.m. Following the service, burial alongside her husband will take place.
