Joan Irma Hutson, 82, of Dennison, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Born October 25, 1940 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Edward Dominic and Irma Josephine (Kinsey) Ghezzi.
A resident of the Twin City area for most of her life, Joan was a 1958 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison where she was baptized in infancy and received all of the sacraments, including her marriage to William Lee Hutson on September 16, 1961. She also sang in the choir for a number of years.
Joan and Bill shared 59 years of loving marriage until his passing on January 28, 2020. They were blessed with seven children who survive them, Cheryl “Cheri” Hutson, Michael (fiancée, Sandy Cooper) Hutson, Terri (companion, John Dunn) Jackson, Eric Hutson, Patrick Hutson, Mark Hutson, and Lisa (Eric) Gilmore. They also delighted in their grandchildren, Callie (Steven), Lindy (Edward), Michelle, Michael Jr., Andrew, Nicholas (Amber), Amanda (Derek), and Natalie (Tyler), and great-grandchildren, Riley, Decklan, Calan, Alaina, Zackery, Liam, Austin, Colton, Jesse, and Bennett. Joan’s surviving family is completed by her siblings, Paul (Karen) Ghezzi, Janice (Roy) Phillips, Tom (Karen) Ghezzi, Peg (Bob) Shepherd, Marilyn (Ed) Dotto, Tim (Sue) Ghezzi, and Betty (Rick) Wilson, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Ridenour, daughter-in-law, Debbie Hutson, and sister-in-law, Carol Smith.
Joan was the quintessential wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who embraced her role as the creator of a beautiful and loving home and family. She was skilled in every domestic art from sewing to cooking and will be remembered for her gorgeous cake decorating. She was also a well-known local artist whose paintings are treasured by the many to whom she bestowed them.
Father Jeff Coning will celebrate the funeral Mass on Monday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
