John A. Reese, 72, of Dover died Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Akron General Medical Center following a period of declining health.

John worked in the hospitality business for several years until illness forced his retirement. He and his family previously owned and operated the former Bassetti Restaurant in New Philadelphia.

Born May 24, 1949, in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jesse “Jack” and Connie (Zifer) Reese. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kim Homman, and nephew, Bill Homman.

John was a 1967 graduate of Dover High School where he excelled in football, track, and basketball. Following high school, he played football and track at the University of Toledo. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.

John is survived by his brother, Gary Reese of Dover, and two nieces, Tralawnee (Greg) Milburn of Uhrichsville and Trisha (Billy) Copeland of New Philadelphia along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

It was John’s wish to generously donate his organs for the benefit of others. Cremation will take place and he will be laid to rest with his family in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover.
