John D. McConnell, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022. John was born June 12, 1936, to Theresa Lembright McConnell and Daniel McConnell. He resided his entire life in Newcomerstown, Ohio. The only exception was during his service with the United States Army following the Korean War.
Upon his return to the United States, John became a heavy equipment operator and a long-time member of the Ohio Operating Engineers. During that time, John was involved in the construction of many of the highway systems in southern Ohio and along the Ohio River. He was also a member of the Engineers that constructed and maintained the Conesville Power Plant.
John also shared his life with his wife, Carol, who died previously. When not spending time with his wife, John enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and cyclist. He was also supportive of several organizations that focused on the preservation of our natural resources.
John had many friends in Newcomerstown and he thought himself very fortunate to enjoy their company – especially in the beautiful natural areas of southern Ohio and West Virginia.
