John Dean McMath, Jr., 81, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation in Uhrichsville, after a period of declining health. Born February 24, 1943 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Dean and Mary Jo (Whitaker) McMath.

John was a resident of the Twin City area for most of his life and had attended Dennison High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves in the late 60’s and enjoyed a 40-year career as a union carpenter with Local #69 and Local #185. In his spare time, he loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and relaxing with his friends at the Uhrichsville Moose, Tuscarawas V.F.W., and Dennison Eagles. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Darla, at their home in Daytona Beach, Florida, as well as hunting and fishing.

He will be deeply missed by his surviving family which includes his children, Lisa (Rocky) Cox, Tom (Andrea) McMath, and Troy (Susan) McMath; 7 grandchildren, Ashlee (Kirk) Kopp, Matt (Tara) Cox, Marcus (Taylor) Cox, Seth (Amy) McMath, Haden McMath, Adrean McMath, and Tabitha (Lucas) Crawshaw; 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; brother, Bob McMath; sister, Sheila Coen; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Darla A. (Gang) McMath who died in September of 2020; brother, Richard A McMath; great-grandson, Marcus Tyler Dean Cox, Jr.; and former spouse, Sandra K. McMath.

Pastor Brett Warkentine will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Saturday, July 20, in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where his family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service. Interment will follow in Newport Cemetery at Uhrichsville. Those wishing to honor John’s memory by a charitable contribution may do so to the charity of their choice.
