John Ernest “Hans” Wieland, 82, of New Philadelphia passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Sycamore Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Millersburg where he resided the past 7 years.

He was born in Mineral City on June 15, 1939 to the late Ben and Ida (Martin) Wieland.

He graduated in 1957 from New Philadelphia High School. Following graduation, he began his career in Aerospace Manufacturing. He worked at Boeing in Seattle, Washington, Lockheed Martin in Burbank, CA, McDonnell Douglas in Santa Monica, CA, and General Dynamic in San Diego, CA before returning to New Philadelphia in 1998 to enjoy his retirement.

He is survived by his former wife of nineteen years, Phyllis Jean (Warrick) Wieland of New Philadelphia; his son, Mitch (Cynthia) Wieland, grandson, Benjamin Wieland, and step-son, Norbert Slusher all of Boise, Idaho, and his siblings, Martha Stucky of Sugarcreek, Frederick “Fritz” (Luann) Wieland and Virginia (Ed) Specht, both of New Philadelphia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Walt (Ellen) Wieland and Betty (Gene) Harding and brother-in-law, Raymond Stucky.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
