John Eugene Capes, 75, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison, Ohio. Born February 9, 1949 in Dennison, he was the son of the late Wayne D. and F. Jane (Arbaugh) Capes.

John was a lifelong Twin City resident and a 1967 graduate of Claymont High School. He attended Kent State University and served in the Army Reserves for many years. He was a longtime member first of the First Presbyterian Church of Dennison, then the First Presbyterian Church of Uhrichsville. John enjoyed a long career as a road foreman for Tuscarawas County’s Mill Township until his retirement. He loved playing golf, cheering on the OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians, and – most of all – mowing his lawn. John will be most remembered for his outgoing personality and willingness to help with any needed project. He truly never met a stranger and loved his family beyond measure.

On June 28, 1970, John married the former Linda Sue Brady who survives him along with their daughters, Cristin (Scott) Beitzel and Carrie (Scott) Duncan, and grandchildren, Madison (Travis) Hemperly, Dylan (Cameron Patterson) McKibben, Jacob Duncan, and Samuel Duncan.

A memorial service and celebration of John’s life is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where his family will receive callers for an hour prior to the service. He will be interred in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor John’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the First Presbyterian Church of Uhrichsville, P. O. Box 50, Uhrichsville, OH  44683 and the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX  75284-0692.
