Joseph John Schubert, 91, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with his Lord early Friday, May 24, 2024, in Amberwood Manor following a period of declining health.
Born in Kenmore, Ohio on June 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Frank and Evica “Eva” (Kelin) Schubert. He met the love of his life, the late Velda R. Wilburn in college and were wed on September 11, 1954.
Joe and Velda ministered to a Yugoslavian congregation in the Akron area. They continued their ministries for many years at the Akron Assembly of God church. He and Velda later relocated to New Philadelphia to join the ministry team at Lifeway Church.
Joe was a dedicated servant at the local food pantry and was a jack of all trades. He served as a maintenance person and handyman to many individuals.
He will be forever loved and cherished by his daughters, Ruthie (Larry) Fletcher of New Philadelphia, Linda (John) Harris of Colorado, and Terri (Scott) Mulder of Texas; grandchildren, Rev. Jessica Fletcher, Rev. Leslie (Travis) Wright, Rev. Caleb (Brandi) Fletcher, Keri (Steven) Russell, Cassie Nesmith, Alisha (Rev. Bob) Cheney and Brandon (Jeane) Harris, Chad Harris, Christy (Luke) Wear, Nicole (Ryan) Michels, and Elise (Ryan) Stephens; son-in-law, Howard Nesmith; sister, Rose “Cookie” (Dave) Shaffer; and 18 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins complete Joe’s family.
Joe’s family takes comfort in knowing he has earned his eternal reward by joining his heavenly Father, earthly parents, wife, daughter, Cindy Nesmith; siblings, Pastors Nick and Steve Schubert and Mary Brown; and other family members and loved ones.
A service celebrating Joe’s life will be led by his family, on June 15, 2024 at 11 AM in LifeWay Church at New Philadelphia. Private burial will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery at Akron.
