Joseph Richard “Rick” Satterfield, 69, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Born October 5, 1954 in West Virginia, he was a son of the late Joseph Howard and Ethel Bernadine (Cross) Satterfield.
On July 4, 1973, Rick married the former Pamela Kay Jones who survives him, along with their children, Shane (Aron) Satterfield and Jodi (William) Gray, and grandchildren, Ethan (Lexi) Bouscher, Payton Satterfield, Ryan Satterfield, Lainey Satterfield, Bo Satterfield, and Kade Gray. Rick is also survived by his brothers, Larry (Lindee) Satterfield, Dave Satterfield, Gary Satterfield, Doug (Trish) Satterfield, and Terry Satterfield; sisters, Betty (Tom) Poland, Sandy (companion, Bill Toker) Satterfield, and Wanda Satterfield; and many nieces and nephews, including Tyler Satterfield who was like a son to Rick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Satterfield; sisters, Janet Lawver, Debbie Satterfield, and Patricia Ann Satterfield; brothers-in-law, George Lawver and Richard Toker; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Jones Chatt; and fathers-in-law, John Jones and Roy Chatt.
Rick spent many years working as a heavy equipment operator in the local coal industry. He was happy to share his vast knowledge of how to do just about anything, making him the go-to guy for many friends and family members – a role that he embraced heartily. He also loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing or mowing on his property. He had attended Hanover Methodist Church for a number of years.
According to his wishes, cremation is planned, and his family will hold a celebration of his life on a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
