Josephine A. Benedetto, 92, of Dennison, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Park Village in Dover. Born May 10, 1931 in Dennison, she was the last surviving child of the late Joseph Guzzi Ross and Mary Frances (Civiello) Ross, having been preceded in death by her siblings, Carmela A. Creager, Ginny Kay Rimer, and Rusty Jones.
Josephine was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison where she was active in the Altar Society and sang in the church choir. She was a 1949 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, she had also been a bookkeeper for many different businesses throughout the years, including Judge Eckert in the Northern District Court, and Attorney Mike Johnson, as well as for Central Catholic High School, Twin City Pharmacy, PanCab, and the Dennison Yard. In her retirement years, she loved spending time with her friends from her card clubs and the Red Hat Society.
On April 11, 1951, Josephine wed William Anthony Benedetto, Sr. with whom she enjoyed nearly fifty years of marriage until his passing on September 21, 2000. They are survived by their daughters, Vinnie (William) McQuaid and Mary (Mike) McCray; sons, Joseph (Robin) Benedetto and William A. (Lisa) Benedetto, Jr.; grandchildren, Lori, Lisa, Andrea, Chris, Katie, Michele, Ryan, Justin, Nic, Cory, Caitlyn, Amber, Heather, and Tucker; great-grandchildren, Cierra, Breanna, Anthony, Morgan, Rylee, E.J., Remi, Isabella, Francesca, Emma, Braydin, Krew, Sparrow, Milo, Emily, Finley, Salem, Elijah, Sofia, and Cali; great-great-grandson, Carson; and many nieces and nephews.
Father Jeff Coning and Father T.J. Lehigh will concelebrate the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 17, at Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church.
