Joyce E. Watkins, 83, a cherished figure in her community and a dedicated professional in the field of nursing, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, at the Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.

Born on February 21, 1941, in Strasburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ruby (Heid) Philabaum. Joyce married William G. “Bill” Watkins, on June 23, 1963. William preceded her in death on February 22, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joann (William) Beebe. 

As a registered nurse, Joyce demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the health and well-being of those around her. She started her nursing career at Union Hospital, where she served as the director of nursing at Hennis Care Center for 20 years, All American Home Health Care in Dover for several years, and was a nurse for the Tuscarawas County schools. Her leadership skills and deep empathy earned her the respect and admiration of both her colleagues and the families she served. 

Joyce’s contributions extended into her community; she was a former member of the Community of Christ Church for 42 years. She was currently attending the First Moravian Church in Dover. Joyce played a significant role as a board member of the Rainbow Connection, further demonstrating her commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. 

She will be sadly missed by her daughter; Lisa Schott of New Philadelphia; her son, Timothy (Rhonda) Watkins of Dover; her grandchildren, Logan (Julia) Watkins, Corey Watkins, and Jacob Schott; along with her great-granddaughter, Keira Watkins. 

Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 10-11:00 am. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 with Rev. Keith Mosebrook officiating. The MidEast Ohio Nurses Honor Guard will pay tribute with a final call of duty. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park.
