Juanita “Nita” McDermott, 91, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022, at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation in Uhrichsville, Ohio peacefully after having her family at her bedside. Nita was born on January 28, 1931, to William and Nancy (McCreary) Weiss in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1951, she married Robert H. McDermott, her beloved companion of 50 years. They raised their family and worked together for many years as managers of Motel 6 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. They happily retired to the peaceful village of Gnadenhutten, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Nita was preceded in death by her infant son, Girard; brother, Dick Weiss; sister, Dorothy Van DeGrift; and husband, Robert. She is survived by their children, Craig (Mary Lou) McDermott of New Philadelphia, Nan McDermott of Pittsburgh, and Jeff McDermott of Bally, PA; grandchildren, Michelle (Dustin) Yenick of Pittsburgh and Jasmine McDermott of Allentown; and several dear nieces and nephews and their families. When Nita was well, she enjoyed volunteering with Trinity Hospital Twin City’s coffee shop and Browse n’ Buy Community Hospice thrift store. In later years, she loved feeding and watching birds, caring for her beloved cat Pip, working word puzzles, seeing a few dear friends, and honing her considerable talent of drawing and coloring cards and pictures.
Burial arrangements are private, as per her wishes. A private memorial service will be held in the late spring when she will be interred with her beloved husband in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. The McDermott family wish to express much gratitude for the excellent care provided by Trinity Hospital Twin City and Claymont Health and Rehabilitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
