Katherine Ann Petry-Theiss, 62, of Sugarcreek, formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 22, 1961 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Russell Carl and Linda Ann (Edwards) Cox.
A 1979 graduate of Claymont High School, Kathy was a Twin City resident until 2003 when she moved to Sugarcreek where she was an advertising executive for The Budget newspaper for 21 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply cherished the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved wildlife photography. One of her most memorable encounters was capturing a male painted bunting in her hometown on her birthday in 2021. Kathy will be remembered as a woman of deep faith who shared with many her witness of God’s faithful love and forgiveness.
On June 21, 1980, Kathy wed Vernon Melvin “Mel” Petry with whom she shared nearly 22 years of marriage until his passing on May 26, 2002. She is survived by her husband, William H. Theiss, whom she wed on February 1, 2008; her sons, Nathanael Blake (Jamie) Petry and Jacob Lanning Petry; stepchildren, Shanna Warner, and Joshua, Colesse, and Devyn Theiss; grandchildren, Brody, Katelyn, Blake, Annabelle, Brock, Emily, Hannah, Lucy, Matthew, Mason, Ava, Hailey, Janessa, Presley, Penn, Asher, and Channing; sisters, Betty (Joe) Martin, Suzanne Cox, Judy (Bill) Ervin, and Diane Clair; brother, Chuck (Sue) Cox; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Matthew C. Cox.
Pastor Brenda Mason-Young will officiate an 11:00 a.m. funeral on Monday, July 10, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
