Ahead of Halloween parties and local trick-or-treat nights, the New Philadelphia Health Department is reminding individuals to be safe when it comes to costumes and hygiene.

Nicole Bache, Director of Nursing, says if someone is not feeling well and has a fever, stay home.

“If you’re not sick and just going to parties in general good hand washing, cover our mouth if we sneeze or cough because it’s that time of year that allergies and just sinus issues are prevalent. Just good common sense and proper hygiene are going to go and long way this time of year. When it comes to walking around for trick-or-treat nights, Bache notes that younger kids need adult supervision and visibility is important.

“Use glow sticks and flashlights so they’re easily seen in the dark. Sometimes costumes will have reflective tape on them and that’s a nice feature to have as well just so you’re able to be seen by cars. When want to make sure young kids are accompanied by adults. They’re out crossing streets and its dark most of the time, so adult supervision is important for younger children to make sure they’re looking both ways when they cross the street and they’re staying on sidewalks.”

Additionally, drivers are asked to use caution and pay attention during their towns trick-or-treat night.
