Kenneth Ervin Dean, 72, of Moorefield, Ohio, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 4, 2026. Born August 24, 1953 in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he was a son of Wilma (née Holstein) Dean of Piedmont, Ohio, and the late Ervin Dean.

After his 1971 graduation from Lakeland High School, Kenny proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975. He returned home to a long career as a miner in Harrison County’s coal mining industry.

A man of deep faith, Kenny loved reading his Bible and was literally called home to heaven with his Bible open in his hands. He lived out his faith through acts of service. He spent countless hours spending time with his daughter Josie, building a bond defined by love and teaching her to handle the world with grace and wisdom. He loved taking care of his family – especially his mother.

In addition to his mother, Wilma, Kenny leaves behind his children, Jon Dean, Andrew (Marlena) Dean, Mark (Stephanie) Dean, and Josie Dean; grandchildren, Madelyn, Chloe, Laynee, Ariyah, Tenley, Scarlett, and Mitchell; siblings, Leonard (Sherry) Dean and Debra (Lester) Evans; sister-in-law, Sharon Dean; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Dean, as well as his father, Ervin.

In keeping with Kenny’s wishes, he has been cremated. A graveside service will be held in Moorefield Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Piedmont Firehouse until 4:00 p.m. Charitable contributions honoring Kenny’s memory may be made to the donor’s favorite charity, in lieu of flowers.
