Nick McWilliams reporting – Kent State University Tuscarawas has distributed their yearly Community Service Award and Distinguished Alumni Award.

For their work with education with their own scholarship fund, John and Peggy Stratton of New Philadelphia received the first nod.

John Stratton was a founding member of the New Philadelphia Quaker Foundation in 1993, which has given over $2.1 million in scholarships to students to date.

He was also a founding member of the Buckeye Foundation for Buckeye Career Center some six years later.

The Strattons now also have their personal scholarship, which supports Kent Tusc students and BCC night school students.

For the Alumni Award, Dover-native Kevin Korms received recognition for his accomplishments after graduating from the university in 1985.

Korns serves on the university’s Alumni Association Board, and is a part of the Dover Exchange Club and the chair for the club’s Children’s Foundation.

A recently retired Walmart Academy Manager following a 25-year career for southeast and central Ohio, Korns is also the Ward 2 councilman on Dover city council.
